Occidental Petroleum Corporation is an international oil and gas exploration and production company with a subsidiary (OxyChem) that is a major North American chemical manufacturer.  As one of the largest oil and gas companies in the U.S., we continually strive to be one of the best in the business.  Our greatest asset has been, and will continue to be, our people.  We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of HES Specialist within our Williston group based in Dickinson, North Dakota.

 

This position is the focal point for integrating HES practices and policies into daily operations of a cross-functional team which includes operations and support functions.  Responsible for communicating and applying federal, state, local, and company HES policies and requirements within oil and gas operations.  Responsibilities include: developing and implementing new and existing programs designed to promote improved HES performance, annual maintenance of risk management plans, emergency response planning, audits and assessments, record-keeping, internal and external reporting, development of written reports, conducting investigations and root cause analysis, site remediation, focal point for regulatory and other government agencies, training, development of presentations, and conducting team safety meetings.

Qualifications

 
  •  3+ years experience in health, environmental, and safety (HES) in the oil and gas industry.
  • Demonstrated, proactive and responsible attitude for personal safety and the safety of co-workers, contractors and the public.
  • Working knowledge of health, environmental, and safety regulatory requirements at the federal, state and local levels.
  • Experience in developing, delivering and managing company safety, health and environmental programs.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to influence behaviors to create a safer working environment.
  • Clear and effective communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Proven ability to work with employees, contractors, land owners, and city officials to continually reduce safety and environmental incidents.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills, ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Team oriented, flexible and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Willing to be accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to respond to HES operational needs.
  • Good computer skills – Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Candidates must also have a valid driver’s license and an excellent driving record.
